WebDec 8, 2009 · The 5.8 Lightenings have the same bolt pattern, so you could use an Explorer upper on a lightening lower. But if you find a lightening you might as well take both upper and lower as the upper is slightly nicer and it will already be bolted to the lower. It is a staggered pattern that will NOT work with the truck lower.

They are pretty compatible. The one thing you have to note that those heads you have a link to have 2.02 Intake valves so you might have some PTV clearance issues.

They may not even hold up to a 5.0L V8 Mustang's stock HO cam, rated at 0.444 lift with the stock 1.6 rockers. When installing GT40P's, it's imperitive you replace the springs.
